THANK YOU!

To all who supported the Matching Grant Challenge.  With your help, we have reduced the balance from $70,000 to $22,000.

One of our special donors was a precious 5 year old who sold eggs from her chicken and donated 5 dollars!  Another faithful supporter donated quite generously, not once, but twice!!

If you meant to give and forgot or just were not able, we appreciate your intention.  It's not to late, whatever contributions you make are always appreciated.  We are blessed and thankful for the amazing support to bring this $250,000 cost for Harriet and Dred Scott's memorial almost to fulfillment.  In these challenging days,
 this is good news.

Springfield Historical Ladies

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, the  Mary Whitney Phelps Tent N. 22 of Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 held a luncheon for Dred Scott's great-great granddaughter.  Lynne Jackson was the keynote speaker and had the honor of sharing the Dred Scott stories with three historical descendant groups.  Board member Yvette Goods was also a guest as they traveled there and to Marshfield, MO that weekend for the Reconciliation Forum.

Along with the DUV of Springfield, MO, the local Colonial Dames and Daughters of the American Revolution also held the joint luncheon together in the Tower Club.  It was a wonderful gathering of women whose love of American history and their own ancestral ties made for an exceptionally engaging afternoon.

One of the members is a descendant of the Long family (who owned the land in Chesterfield, MO - Long Rd.) shared how her ancestors gave the land to former slaves to start their own church.  It is the current First Baptist Church of Chesterfield (Pastor T. D. Stubblefield) where both Lynne's parents were active members for many years.  Somehow it all comes full circle! Thanks to Dee Dosch's invitation and organizational skills, this was a most memorable event.
